K-Pop

Well it has happened…I LOVE K-POP! What happened to me? Lol!

I always say pop is my guilty pleasure because usually I listen to rock or hard rock. I decided my favorite bands are Volbeat and Shinedown. Not poppy in a slightest!

Let’s talk about K-pop and my absolute favorite is PSY! I.can’t.stop.listening. He’s so fun to watch on YouTube and I have to say his back up dancers are hot! I like to look at them even the women. So hot! How do they not screw up, like ever? How?! They are so good at their jobs and they appear in the music videos as well. So for sure Psy is number one in the K-pop genre for me.

I have Spotify and it gives me a list of Discover Weekly every week. It’s based on what I have been listening to from week to week and it suggests bands and songs I may like. Most of the time is a pile of shit. However one week it had Boy with Luv by BTS. At first I was like I don’t know. Then OMG I love THIS! And that is when it happened I went down a K-pop rabbit hole.

I LOVE BTS! They are so cute! I mean like cute! Think of puppies and kittens cute! Their songs are catchy and I love the dancing in the music videos. Also I have seen some interviews and they are so positive and happy. What’s not to like about them? Nothing! My favorite song is Idol.

I have to talk about Jackson Wang. OMG! Now that is one handsome man! I’m not sure if he is classified as K-pop but wow I love his song Oxygen. That music video is so artistic! I appreciate a good music video. There is a YouTube video of him answering questions with puppies! So awesome!

I want to talk about HyunA and CL. They are no way have the same vibe but when I was listening to K-pop two of them popped up which is strange because CL isn’t K-pop.

HyunA has some good songs I like Bubble Pop. I watched some of her performances and I have to say meh. I wasn’t that impressed. She is talented and remember my opinion. She gives me the feeling of she is talented and can dance etc. However more of I am an idol please look no personal. Like just like me from a far. HyunA has done a version of Gangman Style and I hate it. That song sounds like she is trying to make the song sound sweet and I am not into it.

Where CL she is a rapper and I like her song Hello Bitches. Also she did a song with Psy called Daddy. That music video creeps me out but love the song. Anyways I watched some of her performances on YouTube and she gives the opposite vibe then HyunA. CL tries to get the crowd into her concert which I think is cool. And her backup dancers are so awesome!

Back to K-pop.

I am liking SEVENTEEN. No I did mean all caps. I just discovered these guys but I am loving them. I haven’t picked out a favorite song yet so far most of them. Lol! I also started listening to PENTAGON. I see a theme they like to scream their names on the net. Funny. Anyway I am liking these guys too and just started listening to them as well.

K-pop takes me back to the 90s listening to New Kids on the Block. I was a huge New Kids on the Block fan back in the day. I once stood in line for three hours to go see New Kids on the Block and as soon as I got to the desk they were all sold out. So sad. So I understand the obsession with K-pop groups and all the dance routines. Been there and done that kind of thing. Having so much fun listening and discovering them. Oh I am sure I will get back to this topic in the future.

Herman’s Hermits Concert!

coollogo_com-115881390

We had so much fun at the Herman’s Hermits concert at the PAC (Performing Arts Center) in Appleton. I wasn’t sure if I would know all their songs. However I knew way more then I thought! It was Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone who is the lead singer of the band.  Saturday November 5th was the concert AND it was his birthday and wedding anniversary. He turned 69 and has been married for 48 years! Crazy. He moved around the stage pretty great for a 69 year old. WOW!

Also he was very funny! Telling jokes about being in Wisconsin but not mean ones. He was being silly and he did sing other people’s songs as well. The whole band was very good as well. I swear the drum player and the guitar player were related or twins because they looked similar. It was funny. Also funny the age group of the people who went all about my mom’s age sixty or older. So a lot of white haired people. Funny! However it was so fun! He got the whole place up and dancing and singing. And we all sang happy birthday to him as well.

I am surprised how much fun it was! My mom told me she first heard them when she was ten. I am glad April told me about the concert so we all could go. I could tell my mom had a great time and we all did. It was a fun weekend!

Masked

coollogo_com-98318303Am I strange?

Probably.

In the nineties I used to love ICP Insane Clown Posse. I remember when I got their CD. One of Adam’s friends Chase asked me if I wanted this CD. It was the Ringmaster. I had never heard of ICP before that. I said sure, the cover looked interesting.

When I was listening, all ICP mostly sang about was killing people. The one song that got me was Mr. Johnson’s Head. The song is about them chopping off a teacher’s head. It’s so dark and strange. However I liked it and I liked most of the other songs as well like Murder Go Around. As soon as I got to listen to the whole CD. I asked mom if we could go to the used CD store to see if they had other albums.

I was hooked and bought most of their music in the nineties. ICP was the second concert I have ever been too. A lot of people wore face paint when I went. I actually went this shy kid from class. I had no idea he liked them. We were like the two shy kids from class listening to people killing other people. Funny.

The concert was awesome and sticky. ICP loves Faygo which is a brand of soda. They sprayed us with soda in the concert. It was a great time. Also what is funny is my mom let me listen to ICP. I know she had to hear them from my room. And that kid from class his name was Ricky his mom let him listen to them as well.

However I know that there songs are purely just for fun. No way would I ever act that out or anything. I hate when people say that music makes people become murders. Only crazy people say that. I turned out fine and I listened to a lot of ICP. But now I no longer listen to ICP. I know they are still around but I have moved on, maybe.

Yeah moved on to other masked bands.

Slipknot. I really like Slipknot. It’s funny because back when Slipknot came out it was ICP versus Slipknot. Either you were an ICP fan or a Slipknot fan not both. So I secretly liked Slipknot in the late nineties. Which now as I think about it, is ridiculous.

I had Slipknot’s first CD and I really liked it. So different from ICP more rockin’. Not really about death but heavy metal. I could really rock out to Slipknot plus I liked and still like the lead’s singers voice Corey Taylor.

If you listen to Slipknot of the late nineties and Slipknot now you can tell Corey Taylor voice change. Meaning he got older. Funny. I hope one day I can see Slipknot in concert that would be awesome.

Ghost B.C. which now just Ghost.

They just changed to Ghost and dropped the B.C. But still hard to find without the B.C. Even their new CD has the B.C. Anyways enough trivia music facts. I heard of Ghost last year and liked one or two songs. But now I can’t stop listening to them. It’s funny because when I heard the band name and heard some of the songs intros without the singing. I thought hard rock. Well they are still hard rock but the lead singer doesn’t sing like a hard rocker. I like his voice though.

This band unlike ICP and Slipknot they keep their identities hidden. The lead singer who is referred to as Papa Emeritus. They are on Papa Emeritus three which I think is funny. Then the band is referred to as the Nameless Ghouls. They wear cloaks and masks. I think the whole thing is fun!

If you are easily offended about religious things you would not like Ghost. They play off the Roman Catholic Church. Papa being like a pope and the Nameless Ghouls as clergy. Sac-religious in their songs and on stage.

Their new album is great which is called Meliora. Ghost is a Swedish band. When they do interviews they wear their outfits and you can tell they have an accent. When the lead singer does an interview he wears a Nameless Ghoul costume but I can tell it’s him just by his voice. Also he speak English better than some of the other Nameless Ghouls.

Ghost just got new masks too. I love their new masks paired to the other ones. Makes them look more devilish.

Thanks a lot Chase you put me on this path to masked bands. Also thank you it’s fun and awesome at the same time.

Adam Hurst

coollogo_com-28721513Awesome Cellist!

Like I have said many times I love all kinds of music. Sometimes I am surprised what I fine. You may never know what’s out there and there are some artists that are like ear candy. Yes ear candy! Having the internet makes it so much easier to find new or most of the time new to me music. Unlike the 90’s where I actually had to go to the used CD store to find new to me music.

A few months ago I was cruising the internet for some instrumental music. I love that stuff because I love to just listen and not think. Or listen and create. I really wanted to find something that I haven’t heard before. Yes classical music is great to listen to but I have heard all that before. I was really looking from something that I can’t describe but wonderful at the same time.

Then I found it or should I say him. I found Adam Hurst. What I have noticed is a lot of people play the violin but it’s a little harder to find cellist. I have Spotify and all his music is there. I went into a listening frenzy. I wanted to hear it all and I did. One song struck me in my soul. You know that is a great song when that happens. I wish it was longer but that is what the repeat button is for. I love his song The Secret which is the first song on the album with the same name.

When I listen to this song it stops me in my tracks. It’s so serene like nothing I have ever heard before. Indescribable! I just recently had the idea to look him up on YouTube to see if he played any of songs live. When I watch him on the YouTube you can see his expression when he plays. When someone plays that well and creates beautiful music makes the listener feel what the artist feels. It’s wonderful! Adam Hurst does that in my opinion.

I really wanted to add this YouTube video of him playing. So I asked him in an email. And on the same day he responded! He told me I could add this video to my blog. And that he is glad I like that song. You don’t know but I am impressed just by this email! I thought for sure he would make me wait. Thank you Adam for letting me share your song and talent!

What’s great about Adam Hurst is all his songs he made himself. Now that is talent. Also you know it’s him just by looking at him. He always wearing a nice hat which most of the time is black. He dresses in all black as well. I wish I could ask him why. I think it would be a great story to hear.

Unfortunately there isn’t a whole of information about Adam Hurst that I could find. I wish there was more. I just want to know more about him. Like why did he start playing the cello? Or who influenced him to play the music he plays? You know basic things like that. I also wish he would play near Wisconsin I would love to see him. I would drive out of the state maybe Illinois to see him. Maybe in the future.

If you like to listen to some really great music, you have to check out Adam Hurst. Maybe he has a song that stops you in your tracks.

Christmas Music

coollogo_com-1517596

“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”.

I have been listening to Christmas music since November and wondering how many times I could hear the same song, sang in different ways. The answer is a lot!

I love Christmas music that I heard when I was a child and I am also particular on who sings which songs as well. I think Bing Crosby only can sing White Christmas no other band or artist can sing it as well as he can, Elvis Presley can only sing Blue Christmas and Burl Ives can only sing Silver and Gold. I remember when the movie Home Alone came out. It was so popular! The song Rocking around the Christmas tree by Brenda Lee was in that movie and ever since then I love that song. Add that one to the list.

Before I knew who Gene Autry was, I remember him singing Upon The Housetop (Ho Ho Ho) and Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer. As an adult Gene Autry is one of my favorite artists of all time. I have seen all his movies.

Also can’t forget the greats: Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Perry Como, Andy Williams, Burl Ives and Frank Sinatra singing Christmas music, wouldn’t be Christmas music without them. Especially Frank Sinatra, he is also one of my favorite artists of all time. I could listen to him forever, it wouldn’t matter what he was singing. I love his voice.

Let’s go to untraditional Christmas music which is fun and funny to listen to.

When I was a really small kid we had a record player and I remember listening to Alvin and the Chipmunks before they are what they are today. Alvin and the Chipmunks was a cartoon that would play every Saturday, also they weren’t 3D. I loved the song called The Chipmunk song (Christmas don’t be late) this song reminds me playing the record on the record player.

Also when I was younger I use to love listening to Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer by Elmo & Patsy in fact it was my favorite Christmas song for a long time. Now when I hear it, it brings back fun memories listening to it.

Now when I was teenager I liked Hanson, yes I liked MMMBop. I love their whole Christmas album Snowed In, in fact I still love listening to it as an adult.

Teenager Danielle also liked boy bands. I was a huge Backstreet and N*SYNC fan. I liked N*SYNC Christmas songs Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and O Holy Night-A Capella.

Time for adult Danielle.

Last year I heard this A Capella group called Straight No Chaser love their Christmas songs Christmas Melody, 12 Days of Christmas and Who Spiked the Eggnog? (I love Eggnog!)

Some other funny Christmas songs that I gotta to listen to are: Jeff Foxworthy 12 Redneck of Christmas, Bob Rivers What’s It To Ya?, Didn’t We Get Last Year, Mel Blanc Yah Das Ist Ein Christmas Tree (Sounds like his saying the f word), Porky pig (Mel Blanc) Blue Christmas. And my ultimate favorite is Da Yoopers Rusty Chevrolet. I know there are many others but we could be here forever.

Every year we like to watch two movies about Christmas. White Christmas (1954) which has Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen all great singers. Love that sound track. Then we watch Elf (2003) which has Zooey Deschanel who in my opinion has a beautiful voice. In that movie I like when she sings Baby It’s Cold Outside. Also she is in a band called She & Him and they have some awesome Christmas songs I can’t pick out just some because they are all good.

Of course there are some Christmas songs I can’t stand no matter who sings them. They are Little Drummer boy, Sleigh Ride, Santa Baby, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa and The Christmas Shoes.

But there are some that are so beautiful to listen to like Ava Maria and What child Is This.

Love the Christmas music throughout my life and remembering how it was fun being a kid during Christmas to at least having fun listening to new Christmas songs as an adult. I love Christmas music weather it’s traditional or silly.

Rock This Town

coollogo_com-28973532

Rock it inside out!

Sometime during the 90’s when I was a teenager, I went through this phase of listening to big bands. I was totally into rockabilly and that is when I started to listen to Brian Setzer. He had an album called The Dirty Boogie. I totally loved that album. Of course I knew who Brian Setzer was, he from the 80’s band The Stray Cats. I also knew he is a killer guitar player.

I never thought of actually going and seeing him though. On Monday November 17, 2014 Jeff and I went to see Brain Setzer Orchestra and he was amazing. We saw them in Milwaukee at the Potawatomi Casino. First of all I have never been to the Potawatomi Casino and Jeff hasn’t been there since they updated it. The Casino is amazing there is so much to look at on the ceiling. This Casino is the biggest casino I have been in, in Wisconsin. Also it didn’t smell all that smoky which I was surprised by that and in the theater where the concert was you couldn’t smoke. I was happy about that as well. How the theater is arranged is in the front is seats like in a movie theater, then booths with tables, the seats we had were four chairs and table on the side of you and then more booths with tables. We were sitting a little off to the side but yet we could see everything. The couples sitting across from us were really nice people, a little small talk but not awkward small talk.

There was an opening band and they were called The Record Company. Never heard of them before but I really liked them. And the lead singer was from Wisconsin; can’t get any better than! I really liked their sound and will be listening to them. Also you can listen to them on Spotify, which is cool. They played for about forty five minutes. There was a little break, then Brian Setzer Orchestra was on. Oh wow! He was so good and so was his Orchestra.

Not only did he play Christmas music he played older songs like Rock This Town and Stray Cat Strut. But he also played a couple of new songs which sounded great going to be listening to that album. Since Brian Setzer has an Orchestra he played some Johnny Cash songs. I truly enjoyed the show.

After the show we stayed in Milwaukee. We stayed at the Brewhouse Inn. It was a Pabst Brewery at one time and they took the brewery and turned into a hotel. Very cool! We could even see where they brewed the beer. Also they had these really funny looking furniture that really cracked me up.

Songs I never want to here again

coollogo_com-251551680Part One because there will always be annoying songs.

No Doubt-Don’t Speak

I love No Doubt always have and always will. Especially Gwen Stefani I think she is pretty and very talented. No Doubt was the first concert I ever went too. In the 90’s the song Don’t Speak was very popular and at first I thought it was good. The music video was pretty cool. But then it happen they played it everywhere and way too much. I went from “this song is okay” to “I absolutely hate this song forever”. Now when I hear it, I switch radio stations. Never again do I want to hear this song.

Soft Cell-Tainted Love

I loved this song for a long time. Now I can’t stand it. I think it’s my own fault because I listened to it many times. It’s in my Rock Band game and I can’t stand it. Please go away forever, Tainted Love.

Chevelle-Take Out the Gunman

This is a newer song of 2014. But just like No Doubt at first I didn’t mind it. Also I thought they were saying Take Out the Government not the Gunman. But they play this over and over. And if you listen to internet hard rock radio there is a good chance they play this song every 15 minutes sometimes right next to each other. I want to this song to fall in a volcano and never come back.

Unleashed-Don’t Want to be Born

When I first heard this song, I hated it. First it doesn’t make any sense. Second my husband loves this song, so I hear it often. I understand why he likes it, it’s a heavy song but please go join the other songs in a volcano. I will never like this song ever.

Sam and the Whoop-Bom Bom

This song is ridiculous, ridiculously stupid. Have you read the lyrics to this song? Google it, it’s so stupid. Someone (the band) just said hey what rhythms with this word? Hey Sam and the Whoop we are having a party at a volcano come and join us.

Tears for Fears-Shout

“Shout, shout let it all out” I will let it out, out the door. This song has no characteristics and they say the same thing over and over.

The Pretty Reckless-Heaven Knows

Hey hard rock radio station this song sucks! Stop playing it! The music video is dumb, there is a reason they are called a band and I want to see the actual band in the music video not just the lead singer. Can we say her ego is big? Why yes, yes we can!

Forever Albums

Forever Albums

I really didn’t know what to call this segment but “Forever Albums” seems about right. I am going to talk about the albums that I can listen to the whole thing and like every single song which is hard to find.

Foo Fighters Colour and Shape

The year is 1997 and I am 14 years old. I had a deal with my parents; if I got A’s in school for every A I get a CD. And I wasn’t one those students who got A’s all that often even though I work my ass off but I was a C student. So it was great accomplishment to get an A and an A meant a CD. I remember going to Best Buy and back then Best Buy was my key to awesome CDs. Remember, it’s the 90’s, so that means no iTunes or mp3s, we all had CDs. I couldn’t wait to go to Best Buy and get Foo Fighters album, the only thing is that this CD had a warning label on it. I couldn’t have albums with warning labels on them which made me want them more.

I remember picking up the album and feeling “Oh great, how I am going to get this past my mom?” So I showed it to my dad first. (Sneaky!) When I showed him he was like “Ooh Foo Fighters are good. You can get it.” Then my mom came over “No, it has a warning label on it.” My heart sank, I really wanted this album. My saving grace was my dad. He somehow convinced her it was going to be fine if I got it. I couldn’t wait to get home and play it.

To this day I can listen to it and love every track. Of course I no longer have the CD; I have it in digital form. Everyone knows the three famous tracks: Monkey Wrench, Everlong and My Hero. But here, listen to another “My Poor Brain”. It’s also a great track.

The Offspring Smash

Smash came out in 1994 but I didn’t start listening to them till 1995, so I was 12. I remember picking up this album because of the cover. The cover has a skeleton on it. How cool! I think these days the younger generation does not appreciate cover art but I always found it to be interesting. You can’t really get that from your computer screen; you have to see it in person. Also albums came with the cover and the insert tells you the tracks. I feel back in the 90’s, and earlier, there was some real thought in what goes into that insert. Not all the time but most of the time. I kinda miss that.

I remember The Offspring on the radio with the song “Self Esteem” because how it first plays out with the “La La La” was interesting. I had to have this album. I remember getting this album at Best Buy with my Mom and (BONUS!) no warning label. Remembering listening to “Self Esteem” first then rest of the album and finding I liked every single song.

Here is “Bad Habit” it’s a good “road rage” song or if you are just mad or enraged this song is awesome.

Green Day Dookie

This album came out in 1994 that would make me 11 but I probably was 12 or 13 when I found this album. I do not recall how I found this album but I pretty sure I heard them on the radio and fell in love with their sound. I actually bought this album at a used CD store. Which we do not have any more but in the 90’s they were thriving.

Since then I have been a Green Day fan but I would say I am a lover of the old Green Day. I find I do not like any of their new stuff. I wish they would go back to the 90’s and play like they used too. Not to say I do not like all of their new songs some are catchy. OMG! Green Day catchy ugh…….

Here this is my favorite song and you know it too, “When I Come Around”.

The Suicide Machines Destruction by Definition

Yeah I can talk about a Punk album; I do not consider Green Day punk. The year is 1996 for this album but I didn’t listen to The Suicide Machines till the video game Tony Hawk Pro Skater came out and “New Girl” was on the soundtrack. (I loved that game.) So not until 1999, I am 16 years old.

By this time I already loved Punk which is the genre I could listen to it no matter who is playing. Not saying I do not have my favorites because I do and one happens to be The Suicide Machines. Their sound is fun to listen to as well.

This is one of my favorite tracks from the album, it’s called “Vans Song”. It’s a fun song about a shoe brand which I use to wear all the time back in the 90’s.

Reel Big Fish Turn Off The Radio

Ooo ska punk! The year is 1996 and I am 13. I remember this album like it was yesterday. I’ve owned two copies because the first one was destroyed by my younger brother. When I saw “Sell Out” on MTV it was a game changer. Not just Ska but Ska Punk! Can there be anything better? (If you say yes, well good for you.) I even saw them live at Warp Tour. Now that was cool! Even though I was in the way back. Something about the punk sound and horns is just an amazing sound.

Well we all know “Sell Out” and “Everything Sucks”. Here is another “Beer”.

Default The Fallout

This album came out in the year 2001, I am 18 and still in high school. I love the lead singer’s voice who is Dallas Smith. Unfortunately the lead singer now sings country. Kinda disappointed in that because I love this album so much and now he does not sound like Default. Not saying he is a bad singer in fact the opposite he is a really good singer. I expect one thing but got another like alternative to country. Everyone knows the song “Wasting Time” that is the reason I bought the album but fell in love with the whole thing.

My favorite song is “Faded” and that is the song I am going to leave you with. This song makes you think. Love it!

Angel

Angel

By Theory of a Deadman 2014

Songs rarely make me cry but on the other hand some do. Like Angel by Theory of a Deadman. It’s such a beautiful song and actually makes me weep.

I heard this song not on youtube, I actually listen to the whole album Savages by Theory of a Deadman on Spotify which by the way I think it’s their best album so far. Now I am not a huge Theory of a Deadman fan, I like some of their songs that were popular except “No Surprise” I really like that song. Anyways I think now that this album is out, I am going to be a for sure Theory of a Deadman fan.

Angel is such a beautiful song. It’s about letting go of someone you have loved and you have to set them free but to me is setting yourself free from them. I think that could apply to anyone you have lost or a relationship that didn’t work. And I have lost many people but the hardest was my grandpa (my dad’s dad) and my mother in law. I also had a friend die that was really hard for me. I miss them very much. Overtime dwelling on the past should be a happy time, the time that we spent together not the end.

My favorite lines are the chorus:

“Maybe I’m crazy, maybe I’m weak

Maybe blinded but what I see

You wanted a solider but it wasn’t me

Cause I could never set you free”

The line that really gets me is “You wanted a solider but it wasn’t me” wow what an impactful lyric. This lyric means to me you are helpless to help someone you love regardless of whatever it is.

What a great and beautiful song, you can listen to the song below. You can also buy the song or listen to it on Spotify.
